Chester is a borough in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 1,649, reflecting an increase of 14 (+0.9%) from the 1,635 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 421 (+34.7%) from the 1,214 counted in the 1990 Census. Chester Township was established as a separate political entity on April 1, 1799, including the area of both the Township and the downtown Village area which came to be the Borough.

Chester Township is located about 40 miles west of New York City and features Victorian style homes and palatial estates.

The school district serves two municipalities in Morris County, New Jersey: Chester Borough and Chester Township. Black River (New Jersey)
The Black River, known as the Lamington River downstream of Pottersville, is a tributary of the North Branch Raritan River in central New Jersey in the United States. The Black River starts near that of the North Branch Raritan River, several miles west of Morristown, and flows through the Black River Wildlife Management Area, the Black River County Park, and Hacklebarney State Park.
