As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 42,704, reflecting an increase of 2,327 (+5.8%) from the 40,377 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 5,391 (+15.4%) from the 34,986 counted in the 1990 Census. The Edison Bridge (officially the Thomas Alva Edison Memorial Bridge) is a bridge on US 9 in the U.S. state of New Jersey spanning the Raritan River near its mouth in Raritan Bay. The bridge, which connects Woodbridge Township on the north with Sayreville on the south, was opened to weekend traffic starting on October 11, 1940, and was opened permanently on November 15, 1940.
