Mayhill, New Mexico

Mayhill is a small unincorporated community in Otero County, New Mexico, United States. It is surrounded by the Lincoln National Forest on the eastern slope of the Sacramento Mountains, at the confluence of James Canyon and Rio Penasco, about 17 miles east of Cloudcroft. Elevation is 6581 feet. Mayhill includes a post office, a restaurant, and a gas station. The village is almost entirely residential, consisting largely of vacation homes and summer cabins.

RAS (Remote Astronomical Society) Observatory of New Mexico

The Remote Astronomical Society (RAS) Observatory, Mayhill is one of the RAS remotely-controlled observatories. It is hosted by the New Mexico Skies astronomy hosting company and operated by the GRAS (Global Rent a Scope) network. It has a variety of telescopes. It is located 15 miles north-east of the Apache Point Observatory.

Sacramento National Forest

Sacramento National Forest was established by the U.S. Forest Service in New Mexico on April 24, 1907 with 881,841 acres . On July 1, 1908 the entire forest was combined with Guadalupe National Forest to create Alamo National Forest. The lands are presently part of the Sacramento District of Lincoln National Forest. The district comprises the southern Sacramento Mountains to the east of Alamogordo.
