La Cueva, New Mexico

La Cueva is an unincorporated community on the Mora River in Mora County, New Mexico, United States, situated at the intersection of New Mexico Routes 442 and 518. It was established in 1851 by Vicente Romero who found the nearby location of Fort Union provided both protection from the Apache and a market for his crops. Legend has it that he named the village La Cueva because he lived in a nearby cave while he was building his ranch house.

Mora, New Mexico

Mora or Santa Gertrudis de lo de Mora is an unincorporated community in, and the county seat of, Mora County, New Mexico, United States. It is located about half way between Las Vegas, New Mexico and Taos on Highway 518 at an altitude of 7,180 feet. The Battle of Mora and the Second Battle of Mora were fought in Mora in 1847, where US troops eventually defeated the insurgents, effectively ending the Taos Revolt in the Mora Valley.

Golondrinas, New Mexico

Golondrinas ("The Swallows") is an unincorporated village in Mora County, New Mexico, United States, on State Route 161 next to the Mora River about 18 mi south of the town of Mora. It is at an elevation of 6,833 ft . Golondrinas was founded in 1835 as one of the villages in the 827,621-acre Mora land grant and from 1851-1891 supplied Fort Union with produce. In the center of the village is the adobe church San Acacio de las Golondrinas which was built in 1862.
