Cantonment Burgwin
Cantonment Burgwin (also known as Fort Burgwin) was a fort located at 10 miles (16 km) outside of Taos, Taos County, New Mexico, United States, southeast of Ranchos De Taos. It was established in 1852 to protect the Taos Valley from Utes and Jicarilla Apaches. It was named after Captain John H. K. Burgwin in honor of his death in 1847 while fighting at the Siege of Pueblo de Taos. He was buried there. It was designated a "cantonment" to indicate its temporary character.

John Collier (May 4, 1884 - May 8, 1968) was an American social reformer and Native American advocate. He served as Commissioner for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in the President Franklin D. Roosevelt administration, from 1933-1945. He is considered chiefly responsible for the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934, which he intended to correct some of the problems in federal policy toward Native Americans.
