Cabezon Peak

Cabezon Peak is a large volcanic plug that is a prominent feature in northwestern New Mexico. It rises to 7,785 feet in elevation. Cabezon Peak is two miles south of the old ghost town of Cabezon and the Rio Puerco. This volcanic neck is formed of basalt and is part of the Mount Taylor volcanic field. A volcanic neck or plug is formed when magma from an existing volcano solidifies in the pipe or neck and the surrounding sediment is eroded away.

The population was 131,561 as of the 2010 Census, a 46% increase from the population of 89,908 recorded at the 2000 census. 132,330 Population in July 1, 2010 Estimate. The county seat is Bernalillo. It is part of the Albuquerque, New Mexico Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Torreon, Sandoval County, New Mexico

Torreon is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sandoval County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 297 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Statistical Area. Torreon is a small community that is home to many Navajo families. Torreon is split by two county lines; the Sandoval and McKinley county lines. The highway coming from Cuba, NM is Highway 197 and passes through Torreon. This same road becomes Navajo 9 after crossing the county line.
