Eagle Nest, New Mexico

For other uses, see Eagle's Nest. Eagle Nest is a village in Colfax County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 306 at the 2000 census. Situated on the Enchanted Circle Highway, Eagle Nest is a small summer-home and resort area. Originally named Therma, the village was renamed Eagle Nest in the 1930s.

Cimarron River (Canadian River)

The Cimarron River, flowing entirely in New Mexico, was originally known as the Le Flecha. It runs for 60 miles from Eagle Nest Lake to below the city of Springer, New Mexico and is a tributary of the Canadian River, the southwesternmost major tributary flowing into the Mississippi River via the Arkansas River sub-basin. Near Philmont Scout Ranch, the first dozen miles of the Cimarron River are known for fine trout fishing.

Elizabethtown, New Mexico

Elizabethtown is a small unincorporated community in Colfax County, New Mexico, United States. It is located just off New Mexico State Road 38, between the communities of Eagle Nest and Red River. It is just east of the Carson National Forest. The community is a former mining town, and lies northeast of Scully Mountain, and west of Baldy Mountain.

Baldy Mountain (Colfax County, New Mexico)

Baldy Mountain (official name), Baldy Peak, Mount Baldy, or Old Baldy is the highest peak in the Cimarron Range, a subrange of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of New Mexico. It is located in Colfax County, about 6 mi (10 km) northeast of Eagle Nest. It rises abruptly, with 3,640 feet of vertical relief (in 3 miles/4.8 km), from the Moreno Valley to the west and has a total elevation of 12,441 ft. Baldy Mountain lies on the northwestern border of the Boy Scouts of America's Philmont Scout Ranch.
