Tomhannock Reservoir

The water source for the city of Troy, New York is the Tomhannock Reservoir, a man-made reservoir 6½ miles northeast of Troy in the town of Pittstown. The reservoir is 5½ miles long, and holds 12.3 billion US gallons when full. Water quality is good to excellent. Licensed fishing (both warm-weather and ice fishing) is a popular recreational activity.

Schaghticoke (village), New York

Schaghticoke is a village in Rensselaer County, New York, USA. The population was 592 at the 2010 census. During the colonial period of 1640-1750, this area was occupied by a mixed group of Native Americans — Mohicans, who were local, and remnants of numerous New England tribes who had migrated west away from European encroachment and warfare. The Village of Schaghticoke is in the Town of Schaghticoke, near the east town line. Schaghticoke is west of the Village of Valley Falls.

Pittstown, New York

Pittstown is a town in Rensselaer County, New York, United States. The population was 5,735 at the 2010 census. It is in the northern part of the county. A small part of the north town line is Rensselaer County's border with Washington County, New York. Moving west, the Hoosic River defines the town's northwestern line to the crux of its border with the town of Schaghticoke, which juts south to form the western town line.

Quackenkill, New York

Quackenkill (or Quacken Kill) is a populated place in Rensselaer County, New York. The name was collected by the United States Geological Survey between 1976 and 1980 and entered into the Geographic Names Information System on January 23, 1980. By the 1860s the town produced argillite, wood, tank bark, and charcoal; these resources were exported to Troy. In 1860 Quackenkill consisted of 10 houses.
