Gravesend, Brooklyn

Gravesend is a neighborhood in the south-central section of the New York City borough of Brooklyn, USA. The derivation of the name is unclear. Some speculate that it was named after the English seaport of Gravesend, Kent. An alternative explanation suggests that it was named by Willem Kieft for the Dutch settlement of "'s- Gravesande", which means "Count's Beach" or "Count's Sand". There is also a town in the Netherlands called 's-Gravenzande.

Avenue U (IND Culver Line)

Avenue U is a local station on the IND Culver Line of the New York City Subway. Located at the intersection of Avenue U and McDonald Avenue in Gravesend, Brooklyn, it is served by the F train at all times. This station has two side platforms and three tracks with the middle track unused in revenue service. The two platforms have beige windscreens and green canopies that run for nearly the entire length. The north end has black waist-level fences only.

Avenue U (BMT Brighton Line)

Avenue U is a local station on the BMT Brighton Line of the New York City Subway, located at Avenue U between East 15th and East 16th Streets in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. It is served by the Q train at all times. This station, opened in 1908 and completely rebuilt in 2008-2010, is situated on an embankment and has four tracks and two side platforms. The center tracks are used by the B express train when it operates on weekdays.

Kings Highway (IND Culver Line)

Kings Highway is an express station on the IND Culver Line of the New York City Subway. Served by the F train at all times, it is located at Kings Highway and McDonald Avenue in the Gravesend neighborhood of Brooklyn. The station has three tracks and two island platforms. Each platform contains a green canopy with black roofs that run for the entire length except near the north ends, where a control tower is present on the Coney Island-bound platform.

Neck Road (BMT Brighton Line)

Neck Road is a local station on the BMT Brighton Line of the New York City Subway. Served by the Q train at all times, it is located at Gravesend Neck Road between East 15th and East 16th Streets in Homecrest, Brooklyn. This station opened in 1908, has two side platforms and four tracks. The center tracks are used by the B express train when it operates on weekdays. Like the rest of the Brighton Line between Avenue H and Sheepshead Bay, it is situated on an embankment.
