In the 2000 Census its population was 1041. The village has a total land area area of approximately 13.69 square miles, and no water. It has the ZIP Code 12423 and the area code 518. East Durham is known for its Irish Festivals and Irish cultural promotion. The town is the home of the Irish Village USA.

Freehold, New York

Freehold is an unincorporated hamlet in the town of Greenville in Greene County, New York, United States. It has the ZIP Code 12431, and its own fire district. The hamlet is centered around the junction of NY 32 and Greene County Route 67. There are some buildings there, such as the firehouse and a general store. Although it is not in the Catskill Mountains, the range's northern Escarpment dominates the view south from Freehold.

Blackhead Mountains

The Blackhead Mountains range is located near the northern end of the Catskill Mountains, in Greene County, New York, where it divides the towns of Windham and Jewett. The three named peaks in the range — Thomas Cole Mountain (3,940 feet; 1,201 m), Black Dome (3,980 feet; 1,213 m) and Blackhead Mountain (also in the 3,940-foot range) — are the fourth, third and fifth highest peaks in the Catskills respectively.
