Stratton, Ohio

Stratton is a village in Jefferson County, Ohio, United States, along the Ohio River. The population was 294 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Weirton–Steubenville, WV-OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. A major local employer is the W. H. Sammis Power Plant. Stratton gained international attention in 2002 when it lost before the United States Supreme Court in the matter of Watchtower Society v. Village of Stratton.

W. H. Sammis Power Plant

The W. H. Sammis Power Plant is a coal-fired power plant in Stratton, Ohio, USA. The plant, operated by FirstEnergy, was the subject of a Clean Air Act case by the Environmental Protection Agency filed in 1999. Current renovations and construction are being designed and managed by Bechtel Power, one of the world's largest and most successful engineering firms. Block 7 includes one of the tallest chimneys in the world (305 m), which was built in 1970.
