Clay High School (Portsmouth, Ohio)

Clay Junior-Senior High School (CHS) is located four miles (6 km) north of the Portsmouth, Ohio, city limits on U.S. Route 23 in Clay Township in Scioto County--which is 85 miles south of Columbus, Ohio; 50 miles west of Huntington, West Virginia; and 100 miles east of Cincinnati, Ohio. Clay is a rural, Ohio, public high school serving 300 students in grades 7-12 in Southern Ohio. The year 1940 marked the first time a class graduated from Clay High School.

Scioto County, Ohio

Scioto County is a county located in the south central region of the state of Ohio, United States, at the confluence of the Scioto and Ohio rivers. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 79,499, which is an increase of 0.4% from 79,195 in 2000. It is named for an Indian word referring to deer or deer-hunting, and its county seat is Portsmouth. The county was formed on March 24, 1803, splitting from Adams County. It is the childhood home of former Ohio governor Ted Strickland.

New Boston, Ohio

New Boston is a village in Scioto County, Ohio, United States, along the Ohio River. The population was 2,272 at the 2010 census. Apart from its southern boundary on the Ohio River, New Boston is entirely surrounded by the city of Portsmouth. It was platted on February 17, 1891, by James Skelton, A.T. Holcomb, and M. Stanton. New Boston is served by the Portsmouth Public Library and the New Boston Local School District. New Boston is home to the country's third-largest Walmart Supercenter.
