Mount Gilead, Ohio

Mount Gilead is a village in Morrow County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,660 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Morrow County and the center of population of Ohio. http://www. census. gov/geo/www/cenpop/statecenters. txt The village was established in 1832, eight years after white settlers arrived in the region. Before their arrival, the forest was a hunting area for the Shawnee tribe.

Mount Gilead State Park

Mount Gilead State Park is located in Morrow County, Ohio, United States to the east of the village of Mount Gilead. Access to the park is via State Route 95. Work on the park began in the early 1900s, with the creation of a dam across Sam's Creek. Work continued through the proceeding decades, with a larger lake being completed below the first one on July 10, 1930. In 1949, the park was turned over to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Alum Creek

Alum Creek is 58-mile long creek that runs north to south in central Ohio. The creek originates in Morrow County and then flows through Delaware County and finally into Franklin County, where it ends at Big Walnut Creek, which drains into the Scioto River. In 1974, the Army Corps of Engineers completed the Alum Creek Reservoir near the middle portion of the creek length.

Morrow County, Ohio

Morrow County is a county located in the state of Ohio, United States. Shawnee people used the area for hunting purposes before white settlers arrived in the early 19th century. Morrow County was organized in 1848 from parts of four neighboring counties and named for Jeremiah Morrow, Governor of Ohio from 1822 to 1826. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 34,827, which is an increase of 10.1% from 31,628 in 2000. Its county seat is Mount Gilead.
