Baker County, Oregon

Baker County is a county located in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is included in the 8 county definition of Eastern Oregon. It is named for Edward Dickinson Baker, a senator from Oregon who was killed at Ball's Bluff, a battle of the Civil War in Virginia in 1861. It was split from the eastern part of Wasco County. Union County and Malheur County were set off from Baker County in 1864 and 1887 respectively. In 2010, its population was 16,134. The largest city and seat is Baker City.

Pleasant Valley, Baker County, Oregon

Pleasant Valley is an unincorporated community in Baker County, Oregon, United States. It is located about 13 miles southeast of Baker City on U.S. Route 30, slightly bypassed by Interstate 84. Pleasant Valley was a way station on the Place Toll Road in 1865, and later a freight station on the railroad in 1884. Early Oregon Trail settlers farmed in the area. Pleasant Valley post office was established in 1868 and only operated for two months.

Baker Air Force Station

Baker Air Force Station is a closed United States Air Force General Surveillance Radar station. It is located 13.4 miles south of Baker, Oregon. It was closed in 1968. Baker Air Force Station was initially part of Phase II of the Air Defense Command Mobile Radar program. The Air Force approved this expansion of the Mobile Radar program on October 23, 1952. Radars in this network were designated “SM. ”
