Penn State Fayette is a Commonwealth Campus of the Pennsylvania State University. The college is located in North Union Township, just outside of Uniontown, Pennsylvania. Penn State originally founded an education center in the area in 1934, as part of an initiative to provide localized learning facilities that could grant associate degrees or allow students to complete the first two years of a bachelor's degree without the expense of living in University Park.

Connellsville train wreck

The Connellsville train wreck was a rail accident that occurred on December 23, 1903 on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad near Connellsville, Pennsylvania. The Duquesne Limited, a passenger train, derailed when it struck a load of timber lying on the tracks. The timber had fallen from a freight train minutes before the collision. The crash resulted in 64 deaths and 68 injuries.
