Avenue of Flags

Avenue of Flags is a park in the city of Hermitage in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, United States, erected during the Iran hostage crisis of 1979 - 1981 to honor the American diplomats held hostage in Tehran, Iran. The park is on the grounds of the Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery and is open to the public. The memorial began as a single American flag, surrounded by flags representing each of the 50 states, and was created by Tom Flynn, the owner of the adjacent Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery.

Wheatland, Pennsylvania

Wheatland is a borough in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, along the Shenango River. The population was 748 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Youngstown–Warren–Boardman, OH-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Wheatland suffered extensive damage on May 31, 1985, when an F5 tornado struck the area. The tornado killed 18 (seven of whom were Wheatland residents), injured over 300, and was easily the most powerful and damaging in Pennsylvania's history.
