Freeland, Pennsylvania

Freeland, originally called Birbeckville after founder Joseph Birkbeck, then South Heberton, is a borough in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is located 18 miles south of Wilkes-Barre and 10 miles northeast of Hazleton in an agricultural region. Freeland was officially incorporated as a borough on September 11, 1876. Coal-mining was a chief industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Around the start of the 20th century, the population numbered 5,254.

Japan, Pennsylvania

Japan, Pennsylvania is a small village in eastern Hazle Township, Luzerne County located on Route 940. It is just west of the borough of Jeddo and these two names were designated by the Hazleton Coal Company, which used the Japanese port of Jeddo. It is drained by the Black Creek, a tributary of the Nescopeck Creek, westward into the Susquehanna River. It is split between the Hazleton zip codes of 18201 and 18202.

Angela Park (amusement park)

Angela Park was an amusement park located along PA Route 309 in Butler Township, seven miles north of Hazleton, Pennsylvania. The park operated from 1957 through 1988 and its proximity to the Pocono Mountains made it a popular summer attraction in Northeastern Pennsylvania during parts of four decades. It was owned and operated as part of the Barletta Family enterprises until 1985 when it was sold to Mirth Master Corp. of Chester County (PA) who operated the park until 1988.
