The Mud Run Disaster was a train wreck which occurred on October 10, 1888 at Mud Run station in Kidder Township, Carbon County, Pennsylvania, on the Lehigh Valley Railroad when a train ran into the back of another, killing 66 people.

Carbon County marks the northern border of the Lehigh Valley region of the state and is considered part of the state's Coal Region, though the eastern and northeastern section is considered part of the Pocono Mountains region. Some consider lower Carbon County, including Palmerton and Lehighton areas, as part of the Lehigh Valley in spite of being north of Blue Mountain.

White Haven is a borough in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States. White Haven was created in 1824 by industrialist Josiah White. It is located along the Lehigh River which connects White Haven to Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania. The population was 1,097 at the 2010 census. White Haven is located 17 miles south of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and 4 miles west of the I-476 and I-80 interchange. White Haven's elevation is 1,221 feet above sea level.
