Union Water Works, Pennsylvania

Union Water Works, commonly known as Water Works, is an unincorporated community in North Annville Township, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, United States. The community was originally called Alger, located at a crossing of the Swatara Creek. During the early 19th century it became a point of interest along the Union Canal, which connected the Schuylkill River to the Susquehanna River.

North Annville Township is a second-class township in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, governed by a three-member Board of Supervisors. The population was 2,279 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Lebanon, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Postal service is provided via rural delivery from Annville and Lebanon. The only public school is the North Annville Elementary School, part of the Annville-Cleona School District.

Union Canal (Pennsylvania)

The Union Canal was a towpath canal that existed in southeastern Pennsylvania in the United States during the 19th century. First proposed in 1690 to connect Philadelphia with the Susquehanna River, it ran approximately 75 mi (120 km) from Middletown on the Susquehanna below Harrisburg to Reading on the Schuylkill River. Although construction began in 1792 during the George Washington Administration, financial difficulties delayed its completion until 1828.
