Obion County, Tennessee

Obion County is a county located in the State of Tennessee. It was formed in 1823 from Native American lands, and platted on March 16, 1825; it is thought to have been named after the Obion River. As of the 2000 United States Census, the population of Obion County was 32,450, a 2.3% increase since 1990. The county seat is Union City. Obion County is part of the Union City, TN–KY Micropolitan Statistical Area.

WENK

WENK is an AM radio station based in northwest Tennessee. In its first incarnation, WENK-AM 1240 went on the air with 250 watts day and night from the upstairs of a furniture store on October 26, 1946. WTPR-AM 710 went on the air with 250 watts daytime from the second floor of a building on the square in downtown Paris in 1947. Both were owned by the Dixie Network of Jackson, Tennessee. Both had a Variety format in those days.

Union City, Tennessee

Union City is a city in and the county seat of Obion County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 10,876 at the 2000 census. The name is derived from its location at the junction of two railroads, one running roughly east-west and the other roughly north-south. Union City is best known for two things: It was the site of a minor battle in the American Civil War in March 1864, and it formerly had a Goodyear Tire Plant.
