The Dalhart Unit is a Texas Department of Criminal Justice prison for men located in unincorporated Hartley County, Texas. The unit is along Farm to Market Road 998 and near U.S. Highway 54, 4 miles west and 1 mile south of Dalhart. It is located next to Dalhart Municipal Airport. Dalhart Municipal Airport is a city-owned public-use airport located three miles (5 km) southwest of the central business district of Dalhart, Texas, a city straddling the border of Dallam and Hartley counties in the northwest corner of the Texas Panhandle. Hartley County, Texas

Hartley County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, its population was 6,062. It is named for Oliver C. Hartley and his brother, Rufus K. Hartley, two early Texas legislators and lawyers. The county seat is Channing, which operates a unit of the Dalhart Grain Elevators Cooperative.
