Hog Island (Virginia)
Hog Island is a barrier island located in Northampton County, Virginia, and is a part of the Virginia Coast Reserve of The Nature Conservancy. Starting in the mid-19th century the town of Broadwater, Virginia was located on the southern end of the island, but had to be abandoned in the 1930s when rapid beach erosion made its continued existence untenable.

USS Philadelphia (1861)
The third USS Philadelphia was the flagship of Rear Admiral Samuel Phillips Lee when he commanded the North Atlantic Blockading Squadron during the American Civil War. A side-wheel, iron-hulled steamer, Philadelphia was built at Chester, Pennsylvania, in 1859 as the commercial vessel of the same name. She was operating as a trading vessel between Aquia Creek, Virginia and Washington, D.C. at the outbreak of the Civil War.

Wreck Island Natural Area Preserve
Wreck Island Natural Area Preserve is a Natural Area Preserve located in Northampton County, Virginia. One of the barrier islands along Virginia's Atlantic coast, it protects various marsh, beach, grassland, dune, and shrubland habitats, and has been designated an Audubon Important Bird Area for its importance as a nursery for nesting bird colonies. The island is slowly migrating towards the mainland; it is open to the public on a seasonal basis.
