Zoar State Forest

Zoar State Forest is a state forest located in King William County, Virginia, near the town of Aylett. Its land is used for various preservation and recreational activities. The property was originally part of a large estate belonging to William Aylett, and was purchased in 1782 by one Robert Pollard. He built a frame house on the land, calling it Mount Zoar. It was partially destroyed by an 1851 fire, and rebuilt using brick by Pollard's son.

WUPV

WUPV is the CW-affiliated television station for Central Virginia that is licensed to Ashland. It broadcasts a high definition digital signal on UHF channel 47 from a transmitter northeast of Richmond in King William County along the Hanover County line. Owned by American Spirit Media, the station is operated by Raycom Media though a shared services agreement (SSA) as sister to NBC affiliate WWBT. The two outlets share studios on Midlothian Turnpike/U.S. 60 in Richmond.

Chericoke

Chericoke is a historic home built by Carter Braxton (a signer of the Declaration of Independence) in 1767 in King William County, Virginia. Located several miles northwest of his family's estate of Elsing Green, Chericoke served as Braxton's home from 1767 to 1786. When he died in 1797, Braxton was buried at Chericoke in the adjoining family cemetery. The structure was rebuilt in brick in the Federal style by his grandson Dr. Corbin Braxton in 1828.

Battle of Walkerton

The Battle of Walkerton was an engagement of the American Civil War. It occurred March 2, 1864, in Walkerton, King and Queen County, Virginia during the campaign known as the Kilpatrick-Dahlgren Raid or the Dahlgren Affair. The campaign started with Brig. Gen. Hugh Judson Kilpatrick leaving Stevensburg on February 28 with 4,000 men, intending to raid Richmond. The force rode along the Virginia Central Railroad tearing up track, while an advance force was sent south along the James River.
