Dendron Swamp Natural Area Preserve
Dendron Swamp Natural Area Preserve is a Natural Area Preserve located in Sussex County, Virginia. Located along the Blackwater River and 19 acres in size, it supports a swamp full of bald cypress and tupelo. Canopy trees over 30 meters tall line the river for two miles (3 km), and the swamp shows only occasional signs of logging. Some of the larger cypresses are believed to be over 600 years old. Within the preserve is a nesting site for the great blue heron.

Surry County, Virginia
Surry County is a county located in the Hampton Roads area of the Commonwealth of Virginia, a state of the United States. As of 2010, the population was 7,058. Its county seat is Surry. In 1652, Surry County was formed from the portion of James City County south of the James River. In 1676, a local Jacobean brick house was occupied as a fort or "castle" during Bacon's Rebellion against the Royal Governor, Sir William Berkeley. Today the landmark is known as Bacon's Castle.
