Battle of Suffolk (Norfleet House)

The Battle of Suffolk at the Norfleet House Battery took place from April 13 to April 15, 1863, in Suffolk, Virginia, as part of Confederate Lieutenant General James Longstreet's Tidewater operations during the American Civil War. In cooperation with Major General D. H. Hill's advance on Washington, North Carolina, Longstreet with divisions under Major Generals John Bell Hood and George Pickett besieged the Union garrison at Suffolk commanded by Brigadier General John J. Peck.

Battle of Suffolk (Hill's Point)

The Battle of Suffolk at Hill's Point, also known as the Battle of Fort Huger, took place from April 11 to May 4, 1863, in Suffolk, Virginia, as part of Confederate Lt. Gen. James Longstreet's Tidewater operations during the American Civil War. On April 19, a detachment of the 8th Connecticut and the 89th New York landed on Hill's Point at the confluence of the forks of the Nansemond River.

Nansemond is an extinct independent city which was located in the State of Virginia in the United States from 1972 until 1974. It was created from Nansemond County, Virginia, and is now part of the independent city of Suffolk, Virginia.

Nansemond River High School

Nansemond River High School is a public secondary school in Suffolk, Virginia. It opened in September 1990 and originally consisted of students from three of the four former high schools of Suffolk, VA, John F. Kennedy High School, John Yeates High School, and Suffolk High School. Nansemond River opened its doors to approximately 1700 students. The student population swelled to nearly 2000 students in the year of 2003, and in 2004, a new high school, King's Fork, was formed.
