Cumberland Marsh Natural Area Preserve

Cumberland Marsh Natural Area Preserve is a Natural Area Preserve located in New Kent County, Virginia. Owned by the Nature Conservancy, it preserves 1,193 acres of saltwater tidal marsh along the Pamunkey River, providing habitat for bald eagles, osprey, blue herons, and egrets, as well as for the sensitive joint-vetch. It is an important habitat for wintering waterfowl as well.

White House, Virginia

White House is an unincorporated community in New Kent County, Virginia, United States, on the south shore of the Pamunkey River. White House Plantation, for which it is named, was the home of Martha Dandridge Custis in the 18th century, who as a widow, there courted her future husband, Colonel George Washington. They were married in 1759. Nearby, White House Landing on the river was the site of a major Union Army Supply Base in 1862 during the Peninsula Campaign of the American Civil War.
