Kinsale, Virginia

Kinsale is an unincorporated community in Westmoreland County, in the U. S. state of Virginia. There is a small museum near the town commons dedicated to its history. During the war of 1812, the Royal Marines Battalions raided the entrance to the Yeocomico River, which concluded with the capture of four schooners at the town of Kinsale, Virginia (August 1814)

Yeocomico River

The Yeocomico River is a 1.1-mile-long tidal tributary of the southern portion of the Potomac River in Virginia's Northern Neck. The Yeocomico forms the boundary between Westmoreland and Northumberland counties. Yeocomico is a Native American name roughly translated as "tossed to and fro by the waters. " The Yeocomico River forms at the confluence of three rivers: the Northwest Yeocomico, the West Yeocomico, and the South Yeocomico rivers.

Gardy's Millpond

Gardy's Millpond is a 75 acres reservoir located in a tranquil setting along the Westmoreland and Northumberland county line in Northeast Virginia. The millpond is relatively shallow with an average depth of about 4 ft . The upstream portion of the impoundment is swampy and the shoreline is largely forested. Scenic and decorated with lily pads, Gardy's Millpond is a quiet spot to fish for black crappie, bluegill and redear sunfish, bream, chain pickerel, largemouth bass and yellow perch.

Yeocomico Church

Yeocomico Church is an historic church in Westmoreland County in the U.S. state of Virginia. The original wooden structure was built in 1655. It was replaced in 1706 by a structure built of locally fired bricks. It was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1970. The author John Dos Passos is buried in the cemetery of the church.
