Pleasants Power Station is a coal-fired power plant near Belmont, West Virginia. The plant is owned by Allegheny Energy and was completed in 1980 at a cost of $677 million. The plant is capable of generating 1,300 megawatts of power, primarily from two turbines each having a capacity of 626 megawatts . There are two cooling towers, each 428 feet high, and two 1,000-foot -high chimneys.

Broadback Island
Broadback Island is an island in the Ohio River in Pleasants County, West Virginia. It is located opposite of the city of Belmont, West Virginia. Broadback Island is a part of the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge. The island is popular with bird watchers because it serves as a good place to scan for Osprey and Bald Eagles. Along with First Brother Island closer to the Belmont shore, it is sometimes referred to as Second Brother Island.

Belmont is a city in Pleasants County, West Virginia, in the United States. It is part of the Parkersburg-Marietta-Vienna, WV-OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 903 at the 2010 census. Belmont was incorporated on April 19, 1946 by the Circuit Court of Pleasants County. The city was named for the beautiful hills (Belmont—or beautiful mountain) (beau mont) in the area.
