Boaz, West Virginia

Boaz is a census-designated place (CDP) in Wood County, West Virginia, in the United States. It is part of the Parkersburg-Marietta-Vienna, WV-OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, the CDP population was 1,297. The community was named in 1878 by the United States Post Office Department, which selected from three names suggested by a resident named William Johnson: "Johnson," "Ruth," and "Boaz."

Muskingum Island

Muskingum Island is a long narrow bar island on the Ohio River in Wood County, West Virginia between the towns of Moore Junction, Ohio and Boaz, West Virginia. The island is mostly covered in forests and contains a number of oil wells. Since 1995, a site on Muskingum Island has been used as a pulse-point for the native mussel population health in the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge.
