Portage (Amtrak station)
Portage is a train station in Portage, Wisconsin, United States, served by Amtrak, the national railroad passenger system. The depot is a small square brick structure constructed during the Amtrak era, that is located near a Canadian Pacific Railway office (which occupies what was formerly the Portage passenger depot. ) There are no station staff in Portage. Beginning in October 2011 Lamers Bus Lines began offering a daily stop at the station, with service between Madison and Wausau.

Portage is a city in and the county seat of Columbia County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 10,662 at the 2010 census making it the largest city in Columbia County. The city is part of the Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area. Portage was named for the Fox-Wisconsin Waterway, a portage between the Fox River and the Wisconsin River, which was recognized by Jacques Marquette and Louis Joliet during their discovery of a route to the Mississippi River in 1673.

Columbia Correctional Institution
The Columbia Correctional Institution (CCI) is an adult male maximum-security correctional facility operated by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections Division of Adult Institutions in Portage, Wisconsin. The facility was constructed on 110 acres at a cost of $38.6 million dollars. It has 27 acres inside the perimeter fence. Columbia Correctional Institution opened in May 1986, with an original capacity of 450 inmates housed in single bed cells.
