The Rockpile

The Rockpile, known in Vietnamese as Thon Khe Tri, is a karst rock outcropping near the former South Vietnamese DMZ. It rises to an elevation of 240 metres MSL, about 210 metres above the surrounding terrain. Its relatively inaccessible location, reached only by helicopter, made it an important United States Army and Marine Corps observation post and artillery base from 1966 to 1968.

Camp Carroll

Camp Carroll was a United States Marine Corps artillery base during the Vietnam War. It was located at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:16|45|47|N|106|55|50|E|type:city | |name= }}, 8 km southwest of the town of Cam Lo. Camp Carroll was also at the centroid of a large arc of the strategic Highway 9 corridor south of the DMZ, which made it a key facility.

Ca Lu

Ca Lu Combat Base was a United States Marine Corps base located at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:16|41|31.51|N|106|53|8.49|E| | |name= }} on Highway or Route 9, near Krông Klang, Đa Krông District, western Quảng Trị Province, South Vietnam. From 16 July to 31 October 1967 the search and destroy-mission Operation Kingfisher was conducted in the area, resulting in 340 U.S. Marines killed and 3,086 wounded. The body count for North Vietnamese casualties was 1,117 killed and 5 POWs.
