Itchen Way

The Itchen Way is a 31.80-mile long-distance footpath following the River Itchen in Hampshire, England, from its source near Hinton Ampner House to its mouth at Woolston. The walk finishes at Sholing railway station. The route has been promoted by the Eastleigh Group of the Ramblers with grant aid from Hampshire County Council and Eastleigh Borough Council. The route was altered and improved in 2008.

Battle of Cheriton

The Battle of Cheriton was an important Parliamentarian victory in the English Civil War. It took place on 29 March 1644 and resulted in the defeat of a Royalist army, which threw King Charles I onto the defensive for the remainder of the year.

River Arle

The River Arle is a river in the English county of Hampshire. It is a tributary of the River Itchen, which it joins just downstream of the town of New Alresford. Previously the Itchen itself was referred to as the River Arle. The river is a classic English chalk stream with shallow gravel bottom and fast flowing waters fed year round by chalk springs.
