Westhoughton High School

Westhoughton High School is a community, comprehensive and specialist technology college for boys and girls aged 11–19 with 1234 pupils on roll. It is located in the small town of Westhoughton just off Bolton Road, to the west of Bolton, Greater Manchester. The current headteacher is Mr P J Hart. Westhoughton High School was originally an all-girls school. Actress Maxine Peake attended Westhoughton High School.

Westhoughton Mill

Westhoughton Mill (Rowe and Duncough's Mill), situated in Mill Street in the town of Westhoughton, near Bolton in Lancashire, was in 1812 the site of a Luddite arson attack. It had been built in 1804 by Richard Johnson Lockett, a Macclesfield man who had bought and lived in Westhoughton Hall, and leased out in 1808 to Thomas Rowe of Manchester. Westhoughton Hall was attacked at the same time.

Westhoughton railway station

Westhoughton railway station is one of the two stations which serve the town of Westhoughton, in the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, Greater Manchester, north-western England. The station is 15+⁄2 miles north west of Manchester Piccadilly.

Pretoria Pit Disaster

The Pretoria Pit disaster was a mining accident that occurred on 21 December 1910, when there was an underground explosion at the Hulton Bank Colliery No. 3 Pit, known as the Pretoria Pit, in Over Hulton, Westhoughton, then in the historic county of Lancashire, in North West England. A total of 344 men lost their lives.

Hag Fold railway station

Hag Fold railway station is one of the local stations that lie on the Atherton line, between Wigan and Manchester, England. The station is located 13 miles (20 km) west of Manchester Victoria with regular Northern Rail services to these towns as well as Salford, Swinton, Walkden and Hindley. The station was built to serve the Hag Fold estate in Atherton, and is only manned during the morning and lunchtime period.
