Sand Hutton Light Railway

|} The Sand Hutton Light Railway was a minimum gauge estate railway serving the estate of Sir Robert Walker, the Fourth Baronet of Sand Hutton, Yorkshire. It connected the main house with the LNER Warthill Station and the village of Bossall. It replaced the earlier, shorter, 15 gauge Sand Hutton Miniature Railway that was built in 1914.

Battle of Stamford Bridge

The Battle of Stamford Bridge took place at the village of Stamford Bridge, East Riding of Yorkshire in England on 25 September 1066, between an Anglo-Saxon army under King Harold Godwinson and an invading Norwegian force led by King Harald Hardrada of Norway and the English king's brother Tostig Godwinson. After a bloody and horrific battle, both Hardrada and Tostig along with most of the Norwegians were killed.

A64 road

The A64 is a major road in North and West Yorkshire, England which links Leeds, York and Scarborough. The A64 starts as the A64(M) ring road motorway in Leeds, then towards York it becomes a high quality dual carriageway for the remainder of its route, except sections of the road from Malton to Scarborough. The road approximates a section of the old Roman road running from Chester to Bridlington, intersecting Ermine Street - the Old North Road - at York.

Danelaw

The Danelaw, as recorded in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, is a historical name given to the part of England in which the laws of the "Danes" held sway and dominated those of the Anglo-Saxons. It is contrasted with "West Saxon law" and "Mercian law". The term has been extended by modern historians to be geographical. The areas that comprised the Danelaw are in northern and eastern England.

Aldby Park

Aldby Park is a country estate in the village of Buttercrambe near the village of Stamford Bridge in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The house, replacing the original Tudor one, was built around 1725 by Jane Darley but it occupies the an ancient site believed to be where Edwin of Northumbria was crowned King in 625 AD. Aldby Park is best known as being the ancestral home of the Darley family.
