Shindand, Herat
Shindand is a town and the center of the Shindand District, Herat Province, Afghanistan. It is located at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:33.3036|N|62.14|E||||| | |name= }} at 1066 m altitude. Near the town is Shindand Airbase (a military and civil airport). During the Soviet war in Afghanistan, 1979-1987, the 5th Guards Motor Rifle Division was headquartered in the town.

Sabzawar
Sabzawar is a town in Afghanistan, situated at an elevation of 3550 ft on the left bank of the river Harud, 93 miles south of Herat. Sabzawar was once a city of considerable size, and still possesses a fortress with sides of about 200 or 250 yards. This fortress has been abandoned, and the town, which is the centre of a group of villages is now fairly prosperous, with a bazaar of about 500 shops.

Shindand Air Base
Shindand Air Base is located in the western part of Afghanistan in the Herat province, 7 miles northeast of the city of Sabzwar. The runway has a concrete surface. An all weather asphalt road connects it with the Kandahar–Herat Highway, part of Highway 1 (the national ring road). The base is of great strategic importance being just 75 miles from the border of Iran. Once the largest Afghan Air Force base, it is now used by the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
