Apollonia (Illyria)

Apollonia was an ancient Greek city in Illyria, located on the right bank of the Aous river. Its ruins are situated in the Fier region, near the village of Pojani, in modern-day Albania. Apollonia was founded in 588 BCE by Greek colonists from Corfu and Corinth, on a site initially occupied by Illyrian tribes and was perhaps the most important of the several classical towns known as Apollonia.

The District of Fier (Albanian: Rrethi i Fierit) is one of the thirty-six districts of Albania, part of Fier County. It has a population of 199,442 (2010 estimate), and an area of 785 km². It is in the south-west of the country, and its capital is Fier.

Fier

Fieri (Albanian: Fier or Fieri) is a city in southwest Albania, in the district and county of the same name. It is located at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:40|43|N|19|33|E||| | |name= }}, and has a population of 82,297 (2005). Fier is 8 km from the ruins of the ancient Greek city of Apollonia.

Seman

The Seman is a river in western Albania. It is formed at the confluence of the rivers Osum and Devoll, a few km northwest of Kuçovë. It flows west through Fier-Shegan and Mbrostar. It flows into the Adriatic Sea near Topojë. In ancient times, the Seman River was known as the Apsus River.

Vjosë

Vjosë or Aoös (Greek: Αώος, for other forms of the name see below) is a river in northwestern Greece and southwestern Albania. Its total length is about 272 kilometres, of which the first 80 kilometres are in Greece, and the remaining 192 kilometres are in Albania. Vjosë is fed by two secondary branches, both in Albania, the Drino river and the Shushicë. Its source is in Greece, specifically in the Pindus mountains, in Epirus, near the village of Vovousa.
