Gilgandra Shire is a local government area in the Orana region of New South Wales, Australia. The Shire is located adjacent to the junction of the Newell, Oxley and Castlereagh highways and can be reached in about six hours by car from Sydney CBD. The town is the administrative seat for the Gilgandra Shire Council. Like Coonabarabran, Gilgandra can be considered to be a gateway to the Warrumbungles National Park. The population, according to the 2006 census, was around 2,679 people.

Tooraweenah, New South Wales
Tooraweenah is a small village just off the Newell Highway about 44 km north east of Gilgandra in the central west of New South Wales, Australia. At the 2006 census, Tooraweenah had a population of 239. Land surrounding Tooraweenah is used for sheep, cattle, goat and emu grazing, as well as broadscale grain cropping. Tooraweenah is often the last stop for tourists on their way from Gilgandra to the Warrumbungle National Park.
