Coonamble, New South Wales

Coonamble is a town on the central-western plains of New South Wales, Australia. It lies on the Castlereagh Highway north-west of Gilgandra. At the 2006 census, Coonamble had a population of 2,549. It is the regional hub for wheat growing and sheep and wool. The architecturally distinguished convent of the Brigidine nuns in Coonamble was dismantled and transported 600 kilometres to Pokolbin, where it now houses Peppers Convent resort.

Coonamble Shire

Coonamble Shire is a local government area in the Orana region of New South Wales, Australia. The Shire is located adjacent to the Castlereagh Highway and the Castlereagh River. Coonamble Shire includes the towns of Coonamble, Gulargambone and Quambone. The Mayor of Coonamble Shire Council is Cr. Tom Cullen, who is unaligned with any political party.

Gulargambone, New South Wales

Gulargambone is a village in the central west plains of New South Wales, Australia, on the banks of the Castlereagh River, in Coonamble Shire. It is 526 kilometres north west of Sydney. At the 2006 census, Gulargambone had a population of 395. Its name is derived from the local Wiradjuri people's word for "Watering place of many birds" or 'Gillahgambone' for 'place of galahs'. Gulargambone was first occupied by Europeans in the mid nineteenth century and gazetted as a village in 1883.
