Morongla Creek, New South Wales

Morongla Creek is a small town, or hamlet, in New South Wales, Australia, in Cowra Shire. It is 13 km South of Cowra by road. Other near-by districts and/or villages are: Neila Creek, Cocomingla, Cucumgilliga, Wattamondara, and Noonbinna. Just south of the village rises the well-known topographical landmark, Mount Stumbler. Near its base was Conlon's Swamp, which reappears in vestigial form after heavy rainfall although now largely displaced by a farm dam.

Cowra is a town in the Central West region of New South Wales, Australia in the Cowra Shire. It is located on the Mid-Western Highway, 317 kilometres west of Sydney on the banks of the Lachlan River at an altitude of 310 metres above sea level. At the 2011 census Cowra had a population of 10,003 people.

Cowra Shire

The Cowra Shire is a local government area in the Central West region of New South Wales, Australia. The Shire is located adjacent to the Lachlan River, the Mid-Western Highway, the Olympic Highway and the Lachlan Valley Way. The largest town and council seat is Cowra and has a number of small villages consisting of Billimari, Darbys Falls, Morongla, Woodstock, Gooloogong, Noonbinna, Wyangala and Wattamondara. Cowra breakout

The Cowra breakout occurred on August 5, 1944, when at least 545 Japanese prisoners of war escaped from a camp near Cowra, in New South Wales, Australia. It was one of the largest prison escapes of World War II, as well as one of the bloodiest. During the ensuing manhunt, four Australian soldiers and 231 Japanese soldiers were killed. The remaining escapees were captured and sent back to prison.

Koorawatha

Koorawatha is a town in the Central West region of New South Wales, Australia, on the Olympic Highway between Cowra and Young. It was once a large and thriving centre of activity but now has only a hotel and a cafe. It is, nevertheless, a very fine old-style hotel, though not a fancy one, with an elongated-looking stuffed wombat in pride of place on top of the main fridge.
