Roma Courthouse

Town of Roma
The Town of Roma was a local government area in the western Downs region of Queensland, Australia. The Council area covered the town of Roma and was completely surrounded by the neighbouring Bungil Shire until March 2008 when the Town of Roma was merged with the Shires of Bendemere, Booringa, Bungil and Warroo to become the Roma Region. On 26 July 2009 it was renamed the Maranoa Region. At the 2001 census the Town had a population of 6,332

Roma, Queensland
Roma is a town in the western Darling Downs area of South West Queensland, Australia, 515 km by rail WNW of Brisbane. It is situated at the junction of the Warrego and Carnarvon highways. It is the centre of a rich pastoral and wheat-growing district, The town was incorporated in 1867 and is named after Lady Diamantina Bowen (née Roma), the wife of Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of Queensland at the time. Beef, grain and wool are its chief industries.
