Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range) National Park

Iron Range is a National Park located in Queensland, Australia, 1,940 km northwest of Brisbane and 100 km east of Weipa in the Cape York Peninsula, Queensland. Within the National Park is the Iron Range (Lockhart River Resources Reserve), Scrubby Creek mining site and the Lockhart River Aboriginal Reserve. During World War II several Australian Army units were stationed in the area.

Lockhart River air disaster

The Lockhart River air disaster refers to the controlled flight into terrain (CFIT) in Queensland, Australia of a Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner commuter aircraft at 11:44 am on 7 May 2005. The aircraft, registered VH-TFU, owned by Transair Ltd and operated by Aerotropics, was on approach to land at Lockhart River Airport in far-north Queensland, Australia when it struck the ridge known as South Pap, 6 nautical miles (11 km) north-east of the Airport.

Lockhart River, Queensland

Lockhart River is a coastal Aboriginal community situated on the eastern coast of Cape York Peninsula in Queensland, Australia. The population consists mostly of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, whose ancestors were forcibly moved to the area beginning in 1924. At the 2006 census, Lockhart River had a population of 542. It is 800 km north by road from Cairns and approximately 2550 km by road north of Brisbane. Lockhart River is the northern most town on the east coast of Australia.
