Mount Morgan, Queensland

Mount Morgan is a town located in central Queensland, Australia. It is situated on the Dee River, 38 kilometres south of the city of Rockhampton, and is 680 kilometres north of the state capital, Brisbane. The Burnett Highway passes through the town. At the 2006 census, Mount Morgan had a population of 2,447.

Shire of Mount Morgan

The Shire of Mount Morgan was a local government area located in the Capricornia region of Central Queensland, Queensland, Australia, about 20 kilometres south of the regional city of Rockhampton. The shire, which was based around the former gold mining town of Mount Morgan, covered an area of 492.0 square kilometres, and existed as a local government entity from 1890 until 2008, when it amalgamated with several other councils to become the Rockhampton Region.

Number 7 Dam

Number 7 Dam The largest dam built on the Dee River by Mount Morgan Gold Mining Company Limited, officially known as the No. 7 Dam, was built downstream from the mine in 1900. Due to a serious drought at the time the dam was not filled until May 1904. The wall was raised by 4.5 metres in 1999. It remained unfilled until November 22, 2000 when water poured over the top of the dam for the first time.

Mount Morgan railway station

Mount Morgan Railway Station was constructed in 1898 to service the former goldrush and gold mining township of Mount Morgan, Queensland. The station was designed by Henrik Hansen, who also designed the Archer Park, Rockhampton Central, Shorncliffe and South Brisbane railway stations. The station operated as a functional railway station from 1898 until 1987, after which it was restored as a Railway Heritage Museum.

Bouldercombe Gorge Resources Reserve

Bouldercombe Gorge is situated near the small town of Bouldercombe, near Rockhampton in Central Queensland, Australia. The gorge cuts into the Razorback Range and Crocodile Creek runs along the gorge floor. Originally called Crocodile Creek the area saw a small gold rush during the late 19th century. Today, gold is still mined in Bouldercombe, but only by amateurs. The mine still has a wide variety of gold alloys, and is a particularly good spot for alluvial.
