Comet River

The Comet River is a river in Central Queensland that starts to the south of Rolleston. It then flows north through Comet towards a confluence with the Nogoa River where they both become known as the Mackenzie River. The Comet River rises on the Expedition Range north of Expedition National Park. The Brown River is one of a number of tributaries and the Comet River Weir is the main water storage facility on the river.

Nogoa River

The Nogoa River rises on the Carnarvon Range in the Carnarvon National Park in Central Queensland and flows in a north easterly direction. The river ends where it meets the Comet River north of Comet. From this point the river is called the Mackenzie River. Queensland's second largest lake, Lake Maraboon was formed when the Fairbairn Dam was built on the river in 1972. The dam and a network of channels along the Nogoa River supplies water for the Emerald Irrigation Area.

Marist College Emerald

Marist College Emerald is a Catholic, co-educational day school located in Emerald, a rural town located in the Central Highlands, about 3 hours west of Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia. The college draws students from Emerald, as well as surrounding rural areas including Gindie Springsure, the Gemfields Capella, Blackwater, Comet and many rural properties. The college is one of only two high schools in Emerald.

Central Highlands Region

Central Highlands Regional Council is a local government area in Queensland, Australia. It was created in March 2008 as a result of the report of the Local Government Reform Commission released in July 2007. The new Council, located in Central Queensland, contains the entire areas of four previous local government areas; Shire of Bauhinia; Shire of Duaringa; Shire of Emerald; and Shire of Peak Downs.

Shire of Emerald

The Shire of Emerald is a local government area in the Central Highlands region of Queensland, Australia. Based around the administrative centre of Emerald, the Shire also contains the towns of Bogantungan, Comet, Fernlees, Gindee, Withersfield and Yamala. The Shire is home to a large Gemfields area that contains the towns of Anakie, Rubyvale, Sapphire and The Willows.
