The town of Snowtown is located in the Mid North of South Australia 145 km north of Adelaide and lies on the main route between Adelaide and Perth. Snowtown is perhaps most infamously known for the Snowtown murders, despite the fact that most of the murders were not committed in the town. The town's elevation is 103 metres and on average the town receives 389 mm of rainfall per annum.

Bumbunga is a small town located in the Mid North of South Australia 125 kilometres north of Adelaide at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:33|54|S|138|13|E|region:AU-SA_type:city(520)|| | |name= }}. It lies 5 kilometres east of Lake Bumbunga. According to anthropologist Norman Tindale the name was derives from the Parnpangka (local indigenous) term for 'rain water lake'. The town administration falls under the control of the Wakefield Regional Council for local governance.

The Province was founded by a British immigrant to Australia named Alex Brackstone, a former circus monkey-trainer, uranium prospector and postmaster.
