The Thumbs (Tasmania)

The Thumbs is a small and jagged island, with three prominent spires and an area of 4,500 square metres, in south-eastern Australia. It is part of the Tasman Island Group, lying close to the south-eastern coast of Tasmania around the Tasman Peninsula, and is in the Tasman National Park.

Taranna, Tasmania

Taranna is a hamlet on the Tasman Peninsula in southeastern Tasmania. It is noted for its picturesque Presbyterian church, and popular Tasmanian Devil Park. At the 2006 census, Taranna and the surrounding area had a population of 190.

Port Arthur massacre (Australia)

The Port Arthur massacre of 28 April 1996 was a killing spree in which 35 people were killed and 23 wounded, mainly at the historic Port Arthur prison colony, a popular tourist site in south-eastern Tasmania, Australia. Martin Bryant, a 28-year-old from New Town, a suburb of Hobart, eventually pleaded guilty to the crimes and was given 35 life sentences without possibility of parole. He is now imprisoned in the Wilfred Lopes Centre near Risdon Prison Complex.
