Lakes Entrance, Victoria

Lakes Entrance is a tourist resort and fishing port in eastern Victoria, Australia. It is situated approximately 320 kilometres east of Melbourne, near a managed, man-made channel connecting the Gippsland Lakes to the Bass Strait. At the 2006 census, Lakes Entrance had a population of 4,094. The township was originally named Cunninghame, the Post Office of that name opening on 5 February 1870. It was renamed Lakes Entrance on 1 January 1915.

Great Lakes Airport

Great Lakes Airport also known as Kepper Field is a private airport located approximately 6 km north of the town of Lakes Entrance in eastern Victoria, Australia. The airport was officially opened on 2 November 2003 and is capable of operating 24 hours. The airport facilities are designed to handle transport category aircraft, although there is no regular passenger service.

Metung

Metung is a town in East Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. The town is 314 kilometres east of the state capital Melbourne and between the larger towns of Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance. It is on a small peninsula 31 kilometres south-east of Bairnsdale, separating Lake King and Bancroft Bay on the Gippsland Lakes. At the 2006 census, Metung had a population of 1,207. Metung Post Office opened on 2 June 1879.

Gippsland Lakes Discovery Trail

The Gippsland Lakes Discovery Trail is a 25 km rail trail in East Gippsland, Victoria, Australia, sometimes known as the Mississippi Creek Trail. It connects the East Gippsland Rail Trail to Lakes Entrance, much of it running through the Colquhoun State Forest. It follows the route of a former tramway used to transport granite from a quarry to Lakes Entrance.
