Murtoa railway station

Murtoa is no longer used as a passenger station following the withdrawal of the V/Line Dimboola service in 1993. The station however still functions as an important location for Freight Australia where it serves as the junction for the Hopetoun branch. The station used to have a dock platform for the Hopetoun branch. People in Murtoa have called on The Overland, the interstate rail journey that runs from Adelaide to Melbourne to make Murtoa an additional stop for the train service.

Dooen, Victoria

Dooen is a small town situated in the Wimmera region, Western Victoria, Australia. The Henty Highway between Mildura and Portland passes through the tiny town. At the 2006 census, Dooen and the surrounding area had a population of 544. Dooen Post Office opened on 1 September 1877 and closed in 1982. The Old Dooen pub is one of the few remaining occupied buildings and is popular amongst the agricultural students of Longerenong College.

Murtoa, Victoria

Murtoa is a wheat district town in Victoria, Australia, situated around Lake Marma on the Wimmera Highway, 305 kilometres north-west of the state capital, Melbourne. The town is in the Shire of Yarriambiack local government area. At the 2006 census, Murtoa had a population of 912. The name Murtoa is believed to come from a local Aboriginal word meaning "home of the lizard". Murtoa's post office opened on 1 August 1874.

County of Borung

The County of Borung is one of the 37 counties of Victoria which are part of the cadastral divisions of Australia, used for land titles. The northern boundary of the county is at 36°S. At the north its western boundary is 142°E, its eastern boundary is 143°E. Larger towns include Dimboola, Warracknabeal, Horsham and Stawell. The county was proclaimed in 1871 together with the other counties of the Wimmera Land District.
