County of Dundas, Victoria

The County of Dundas is one of the 37 counties of Victoria which are part of the cadastral divisions of Australia, used for land titles. The county is in the Western District of Victoria bounded by the Glenelg River in the west and north, by a line from Casterton to Penshurst in the south, and by the eastern edge of the Grampians in the east. Larger towns include Hamilton, Casterton and Coleraine. The county was proclaimed in 1849.

Shire of Southern Grampians

The Shire of Southern Grampians is a local government area in Victoria, Australia in the south-west of the state. It includes the towns of Coleraine, Hamilton, Dunkeld and Penshurst. It has an area of 6,810 square kilometres. In 2006 it had a population of 16,638. It was formed in 1994 from the merger of the City of Hamilton, Shire of Wannon and parts of the Shire of Dundas, Shire of Kowree, Shire of Mount Rouse and Shire of Heywood.

Cavendish, Victoria

Cavendish is a township in the Shire of Southern Grampians in the Western District of Victoria, Australia on the Wannon River. At the 2006 census, Cavendish and the surrounding area had a population of 454. The township was settled in the early 1850s, the Post Office opening on 1 April 1853. A railway line linking the town to Hamilton was opened on 2 November 1915. The Cavendish Cafe claims to make the biggest hamburger in Australia. The burger weighs 4 kilograms .

Wannon River

Wannon River is a river in Victoria, Australia. It is a tributary of the Glenelg River and its total length is approximately 220 kilometres from its headwaters in the Grampians north of Dunkeld where it joins with the Glenelg River south of Casterton. The river passes alongside Dunkeld and through the townships of Cavendish and Wannon. Hamilton, Coleraine and Penshurst lie within the river basin.

Nigretta Falls

The Nigretta Falls are waterfalls located in the Southern Grampians Shire, 16 km west of Hamilton, Victoria, Australia. The Falls are fed by the Wannon River that has its head waters in the Grampians mountains. The Falls tumble over many rocky outcrops creating several streams of falling water and then drop into a large pool at the base before continuing its journey to the Wannon Falls some 10 km downstream.
