Grass Valley, Western Australia

Grass Valley is a small townsite 13 kilometres east of Northam, Western Australia in the Avon Valley area. The town is named after a local property of the same name that was established in 1833 by William Nairn. The Northam to Kalgoorlie Eastern Goldfields Railway line passes through the town and includes a crossing loop. The railway was built through the area in 1894. Land was set aside for a townsite in 1898 and the town was gazetted in the same year.

Mortlock River

The Mortlock River is a river in the Wheatbelt of Western Australia. The headwaters of the river rise near Belmunging then flow in a northerly direction crossing the Goldfields Road and continuing in a north-westerly direction to finally flow parallel to the Northam York Road and crossing Great Eastern Highway. The river discharges into the Avon River, of which it is a tributary, just west of Northam. The river was named after the surveyor Henry Mortlock Ommanney in the 1830s.

Northam Senior High School

Northam Senior High School is a comprehensive public high school located in Northam, a regional centre 97 kilometres east of Perth, Western Australia. The school was established in 1921 and by 2012 had an enrolment of 604 students between Year 8 and Year 12, approximately 12% of whom were Aboriginal. It is the oldest Senior High School outside the metropolitan area and the third oldest school in Western Australia.

Northam, Western Australia

Northam is a town in Western Australia, situated at the confluence of the Avon and Mortlock Rivers, about 97 kilometres north-east of Perth in the Avon Valley. At the 2011 census, Northam had a population of 6,580. Northam is the largest town in the Avon region. It is also the largest inland town in the state not founded on mining.

Town of Northam

The Town of Northam was a local government area of Western Australia for the town of Northam in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, 97 kilometres north-east of the capital, Perth along Great Eastern Highway. The Town had a population of 6,009 as of the 2006 census. In January 2007, the Department of Local Government and Regional Development recommended the council merge with the surrounding Shire of Northam to become a single entity.
