Kojonup, Western Australia

Kojonup is a town located 256 km south-east of Perth, Western Australia along Albany Highway. The name Kojonup is believed to refer to the "Kodja" or stone axe made by Indigenous Australians from the local stone. The first European in the area was surveyor Alfred Hillman who arrived in 1837 and had been guided to "Kojonup Spring" by the local Aboriginals.

Shire of Kojonup

The Shire of Kojonup is a local government area in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, about 250 kilometres southeast of the state capital, Perth, along Albany Highway. The Shire covers an area of 2,932 square kilometres and its seat of government is the town of Kojonup.

Muradup, Western Australia

Muradup is a small town in the Great Southern region of Western Australia located between Kojonup and Boyup Brook. The town is situated along the Balgarup River. Settlers had appeared in the area in the 1850s but it was not until 1899 that land was set aside for a townsite. The Shire of Kojonup requested for lots to be surveyed in 1905, this was carried out in 1906 and the town was gazetted in 1907 as Muradupp. More land was opened for selection in the area in 1909.

Jingalup, Western Australia

Jingalup is a town in the Great Southern region of Western Australia located between the towns of Kojonup and Cranbrook. The town is located on Murrin Brook which is a tributary of the Tone River. The area was explored by Francis Thomas Gregory in 1846 and who first recorded the name Jingalup. The area was eventually opened to agriculture. By 1918 the local farmers requested that a townsite be declared, and proposed the name be Mybrup.

Boscabel, Western Australia

Boscabel is a town in the Great Southern region of Western Australia located not far from Kojonup. The town was gazetted in 1913, following a suggestion to do so by the local progress association in 1912. It is believed that the town is named after Boscobel House in Shropshire.
